So they need to survive roughly 3 rounds of damage but the amount goes down every round and after 1 or 2 rounds the advantage swites to the party. You'll obviously want more or better skilled minions with a higher level party. Make the wizard use a fireball or 2. Then they're a little softer going onto the boss fight.

As far as I know, in all previous editions over the past 20 years Leomund's tiny hut has always protected the caster from attacks from below. In one edition it was a sphere.
